Decorah woman wins an award for volunteering

The Iowa Hospital Association has awarded a 2014 Shining Star Award to Winneshiek Medical Center volunteer and Auxiliary Board president Darlene Frana.

Frana was a long-time manager of the hospital's Gift Shop.  Since retiring from the position, she still regularly volunteers her time to work in the Gift Shop, donates hand-made items to sell, and decorates the space to celebrate the seasons. 

Darlene was nominated for the award by WMC volunteer coordinator Karla Bakken.   Bakken says, "Darlene is an outstanding volunteer who freely gives of her time, talent and resources, expecting nothing in return.  Her dedication to Winneshiek Medical Center and the volunteer program is evident in the 2,500 volunteer hours she has given to WMC.  She is reliable, makes herself available to fill any volunteer need, and is a leader among her peers."
