Iowa Party candidate for governor Jonathon Narcisse says Republicans and Democrats have "a really confused strategy" for promoting economic growth in the state.
Visiting Decorah and Northeast Iowa Monday, Narcisse told decorahnews.com that when developers tear up valuable Iowa farmland for commercial sprawl, they get the government to pay for the costs of new roads and other utilities. But when someone takes a run-down building and rehabs it, the government punishes you by increasing your property taxes.
Narcisse wants state government to fix education by cutting the number of school administrators as a percentage of employees--both in Iowa school districts and at the Regents universities of Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa. Such cuts, he says, would allow the state to offer Iowa students a chance to go to college tuition-free at the Regents universities, allowing them to graduate debt-free. That's something that would benefit all 99 Iowa counties, Narcisse says, because then young people could afford to stay in Iowa because their expenses would be lower.
The Des Moines publisher and former Des Moines School Board member calls the new Iowa Party "The watchdog party" and says his group is trying to transform the state by electing candidates in local elections and by weighing in on ballot initiatives and referendums.
