This is Fire Prevention Week

Fire departments in Decorah, Castalia, Ossian and Fort Atkinson on Wednesday will be holding "Operation EDITH," or "Exit Drills in The Home."

The purpose of EDITH is to encourage area residents to make a fire escape plan and practice exit drills.  All households that have completed this are being asked to turn on their porch lights so firefighters can count how many households have participated. The fire departments will canvas the towns at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, counting the porch lights to get an idea how many residents are prepared.

Iowa has seen 30 fire related deaths this year.
