Decorah school officials studying move of bus garage

Decorah School District officials are looking for a new location for their bus garage.  On Monday School Superintendent Mike Haluska and other school officials met with Winneshiek County supervisors to discuss an idea to locate the bus barn next to the county's Freeport highway shop.

Haluska told supervisors locating the bus barn next to the county shop could lead to "economies of scale," especially if the two governments got a lower price on gasoline by combining orders.

Supervisor Dean Thompson questioned locating a bus barn on the busy Old Stage Road, but Haluska replied that buses would be on the road before Rockwell-Collins traffic in the morning and afternoon.

Supervisors took no action on the request, but agreed to continue studying the idea.
