For decades the morning chapel services at Luther College have been broadcast on the 1240AM radio frequency. The broadcasts were first done by KWLC Luther College Radio when chapel services were held every weekday.
It's not known when the chapel service broadcasts began, but KWLC is one of the oldest continuously operating college radio stations in the country, signing on December 18, 1926 when then-president of Luther Oscar L. Olson read the Gettysburg Address.
Over the years the responsibility for the chapel service broadcasts changed to being that of KDEC Radio and the chapel service schedule changed to three days a week.
As of Wednesday, the latest change will find the end of the broadcasts on the 1240AM frequency. KDEC-AM is switching its music format to rock-n-roll hits from the 50s, 60sand 70s. As part of the format change, it is dropping broadcasts of chapel services.
Luther College will still offer the chapel broadcasts online through its KWLC website, http://www.luther.edu/kwlc/listen/
