Special Traffic Enforcement Program over the Labor Day holiday resulted in 48 extra traffic citations

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says Iowa's Special Traffic Enforcement Program from August 25th through September 7th was a success in the county.

Before the STEP enforcement wave, 94 percent of vehicle occupants were using their seat belts--95.6 percent were after the STEP.

The Sheriff's Department also says it issued 48 traffic citations and warnings during the STEP, including three drunk driving arrests.  Deputies also served three arrest warrants, responded to five vehicle accidents and rendered assistance to seven motorists.
