Solar energy installations have become more and more common in the past year or two in Decorah, with a number of homeowners installing the solar panels.
The latest solar energy in Decorah involves a business, however. Short Street Laundry has just installed solar panels on the roof of its building. Business owner Russell Novak says the panels now supply all the electricity needed to run the laundromat.
In fact, a report prepared by Novak shows the solar array will mean a reduction of 18 tons of carbon production annually. That's the equivalent of a reduction of 1,860 gallons of gasoline or the amount of carbon cleansing done by 539 trees.
Novak says with the installation of the solar panels the laundromat has another type of "clean"--clean energy.
