Genealogist Brenda Hare

Members of Northeast Iowa's Daughters of the American Revolution Hannah Lee Chapter have gotten some advice from Cedar Rapids DAR member Brenda Hare on "How to Find Those Ancestors and Documents."

Hare has served as a DAR registrar since 1998 and has taken all the DAR genealogy classes.  She has assisted many DAR members with completing the documentation of their lineage for membership in the organization.

Her presentation covered the categories of genealogy preservation, genealogical records, American history, American heritage, lineage and research.  She reviewed the DAR Genealogical Research System and directed attendees to make use of her favorite free websites in their genealogical research.  She emphasized the importance of not overlooking land records, probates, wills and court records when researching.

An ancestor can be considered a patriot of the Revolutionary War in one of four ways:  signer of the Declaration of Independence, military service, civil service, and/or patriotic service.
