If you're driving 50 miles or more this Labor Day weekend, you'll have lots of company.
The Iowa-Minnesota Chapter of AAA says about 34.7 million Americans will be taking trips 50 miles or more. That makes it the busiest Labor Day weekend of the past six years.
Motorists will see the lowest prices for this holiday weekend since 2010. AAA's survey shows the average price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded in Iowa is $3.33--19 cents a gallon lower than last Labor Day. Gas prices statewide range from $3.36 a gallon to $3.22 cents a gallon. Gas in Decorah averages $3.32 a gallon.
If you're out of the highways this weekend, you might also want to watch your speed--a "Special Traffic Enforcement Program" is in effect, with federal funds paying police departments the cost of overtime for patrolling.
