Decorah Youth Choirs now being organized

Posted: Thu, Aug 28, 2014 2:51 PM

Decorah area children in kindergarten through 9th grade now can join one of four new youth choirs.

Decorah Youth Choirs will be conducted by Luther College Assistant Professor of Music Jennaya Robison, John Cline Elementary School Music Teacher Andrew Ellingsen and Luther College Coordinator of Music Education Jill Wilson.  Singers in the Decorah Youth Choirs will also have the chance to learn from Luther College music education students who will serve as assistant conductors for the organization.

Each youth choir will have a Norwegian name.  The youngest singers will join "Nissekoret;" elementary school singers will join "Norske Kor;" upper elementary and younger middle schoolers will join "Korsang;" and skilled singers in grades 7-9 will join Kammerkoret.

Decorah Youth Choirs is part of a larger parent organization, New World Musical Arts, which gained 501(c)(3), non-profit status in March of 2010.  Any charitable donations to Decorah Youth Choirs are tax-deductible and stay local.

Singers interested in registering can learn more by visiting www.decorahyouthchoirs.org.  All choirs are tuition-based ensembles. Tuition rates are available on the website.  Scholarships are available to ensure that all children who are interested can participate. Rehearsals begin in September and will be held at First Lutheran, 406 W. Broadway, Decorah.

Registration is open now through mid-September.
