The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department is offering prairie seed collecting hikes at the City Community Prairie to be led by Jerri Osenga. The first hike will be held Thursday, August 28th, from 10:00 am to noon, beginning at the Butterfly Garden. The City Community Prairie can be found by taking Ohio Street to the dike, then traveling over the dike to the prairie.
Seeds that are ripe for harvesting are expected to be: side oats grama grass, Canada wild rye grass, white prairie clover, lead plant, flowering spurge, and golden alexander. Dates for future hikes will be posted on www.decorahia.org.
