It appears a downtown parking lot will be saved--at least for the next two years.
Earlier the Decorah City Council voted 4-3 to offer businessman Marc Folkedahl $400 a month rent for his parking lot off Main Street in downtown Decorah. That offer was $100 less than the city had previously been paying.
Folkedahl rejected the offer and the parking lot might have been in danger of closing. But Wednesday morning members of the DDBA Board voted unanimously to make up the $100/month difference over the next two years.
The group will also restart efforts to purchase the property "so we don't have to have this discussion every two years," as one board members said. The DDBA board agreed that having adequate parking space available downtown was a central part of its mission.
