Driftless Safari scavenger hunt still open for participation

Posted: Thu, Aug 14, 2014 5:42 PM

Materials for the 2014 Driftless Safari program are still available at local county libraries, with the contest running until Halloween

Driftless Safari is a free scavenger hunt spread all across Winneshiek County. Participants are given a guidebook and map featuring 20 sites in Winneshiek County, all highlighting a unique natural, historical, or cultural place.   Participants in the scavenger hunt visit one of the site, then follow clues in the guidebook to find a wooden post with a special tile from which participants can make a crayon rubbing in their guidebook as proof of their visit.  Every guidebook page provides information about the site, gives tips on what clothing or gear might be appropriate for that location, and offers ideas of activities to do while there.

All participants who visit 15 or more sites over the course of the Safari program (until Halloween) can present their Safari booklet at their local libraries to collect a small prize and to be entered in a raffle drawing for one of three $25 gift cards for Chamber Dollars..

All Winneshiek County residents and visitors are welcome to pick up materials at any Winneshiek County public library (you do not need to be a resident of a town to pick up materials at that library) or to print off their own materials by visiting the Driftless Safari website, www.driftless-safari.org.
