The Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation has begun accepting applications for grants from the foundation's Community Mental Health fund.
Decorah resident Mildred Jacobson was the leading force in establishing the fund, giving $10,000, following the example set by her ancestor William H. Smith, who was the first hospital's chief donor.
The fund will be used to support qualifying mental health initiatives within Winneshiek Medical Center's service area through a grant process. Grant funds are intended to support an existing program/project or creation of a new program/project that serve individuals and their caregivers who are experiencing difficulties connected to mental health-related issues.
Grant instructions and applications can be found on the Winneshiek Medical Center website at www.winmedical.org/giving. Completed applications must be submitted by Wednesday, October 1st. Grant recipients will be announced at the WMC Centennial Gala Celebration on Saturday, November 1st.
