Marian e-mails: "I'm wondering why the city is not contacting the condo builder on Division Street to get them to clear the sidewalk for people to walk on. There is soil, a load of gravel and vehicles parked on the sidewalk. Last winter the folks on Division Street were told sidewalks were to be kept free of snow or the city would charge $50 to remove the snow, so (a walker) could walk in sub zero weather."
Mr. Answer Person says: "First of all, you weren't being subjected to special rules about sidewalks--everyone is required to keep sidewalks free of snow.
Mr. Answer Person took a tour of the property you mention and they will be required to clear the sidewalk--after the construction is finished. Here's what City Administrator Chad Bird has to say:
"The (site) is obviously under construction, so I would not enforce sidewalks or maintenance in an active construction site. Once the contractor moves to the site work phase (that of landscaping, drives and sidewalks), then I will expect a fully functioning sidewalk to appear.
On another note, Bird inspected the lots to the south of the construction site and says, "I will contact the property owner to ensure that it is kept clean."
