There's been an increase in Decorah in the number of arrests on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The latest annual report from the Decorah Police Department--which covers July 1st, 2013 through June 30th, 2014--reports 90 arrests during the 12 months on the drunk driving charges. Police also made 64 arrests on public intoxication charges.
Decorah Police Chief Bill Nixon says some of the increase might be due to a more aggressive approach by police to target drunk driving. But other factors might also be having an influence. Nixon told Decorah City Council members the 90 OWI arrests represented a "considerable" increase from the year before.
