Bananarama is wrong. It has not been a "cruel, cruel summer" in Decorah in 2014.
While Monday's rain broke a string of 19 consecutive days without rain in Decorah, there is still one streak that's intact--there's been just one day (July 22nd) in Decorah this summer in which the temperature has hit 90 degrees.
That means 64 out of the 65 past days of what is considered "meteorological summer," June 1st through August 31st, have had highs below 90.
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz has crunched the numbers and says the average number of 90-degree days in June and July in Decorah is 10, so we are 9short of the average.
According to Bernatz, there have been three summers (June-Aug) with no 90-degree days--2008, 1993 and 1979.
Bernatz' weather website includes a "summer analysis" similar to his winter analysis. In the left column (home page) click on"Summer Analysis" under the "Seasonal" heading. You willthen see a "Summer Statistics" list at the top of the left-handcolumn.
