Decorah Police say a local resident was the target of a phone scam recently.

A phone caller said to the intended victim that their grandson was being held by police in Panama City, Panama.  They asked for money to assist in the release on the grandson.

The elderly person went to the Decorah Wal-Mart to purchase a money order--but store workers voided the money order and got the funds returned to the intended victim.

Decorah Police are warning the public, "If anyone receives a call of this nature...contact your local law enforcement agency and report the incident--do NOT send any money."
