Members of Hannah Lee Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution have started a new service project to honor veterans in nursing homes. Lap robes in patriotic motifs are being created for the veterans. Decorah resident Wendy Novak initiated the project with the help of Becky McCabe and Mona Day. They have been working on this project the second Wednesday of each month.
The first lap robe has been given to Eugene Novak, a resident of Evans Memorial Home in Cresco and a veteran of the United States Army. He entered the service in February 1951. After his basic training he was sent to Germany. Following additional training in Germany, he remained there as an instructor until his discharge from the army in February 1953.
