Decorah will be getting another community musical group.
The "Oneota Valley Community Orchestra" will give area amateur and professional musicians a chance to continue performing classical music.
Organizer Matt Cody tells decorahnews.com, "There are lots of opportunities for music making in this community--but not for instrumentalists." Cody hopes to change that. He's hoping to attract at least 15 string musicians and a number of wind musicians.
"We'll get going as soon as we can," he says, with rehearsal dates to be selected later after musicians can compare notes on available days and times. Cody is hoping for two concerts during the 2014-2015 school year--one in December or January and another in May or June.
The orchestra will present live classical music to the residents of the Oneota Valley and will promote music education. This is a volunteer ensemble for anyone who wants an opportunity to present music in an orchestral setting. The only requirements for joining are to be at least age 14, have the ability to read music, and a strong desire to create.
More information about the orchestra--including a sign-up form--is available at their website, http://www.ovcorchestra.org/
