Decorah City Council members aren't sure whether the rental of property along Main Street for a parking lot is worthwhile. So Monday night they narrowly approved a two-year extension of the lease for the Folkedahl property--but at a lower price than the current payment.
The $400 a month offer for rent now puts the issue in property owner Marc Folkedahl's court.
City council members Randy Schissel, Charles Lore and Tade Kerndt voted against the lease extension, while Jody Neiss, Paul Wanless, Bill Wagner and Gary Rustad supported it.
There was one proposal that all seven city council member supported: the idea of renting out permanent parking spots in the parking lot as a way to raise money to lessen the cost of the rental to the city.
