As one of the top green colleges in the nation, Luther College will host its first pre-college program for environmental studies July 27-Aug. 2. The program, a fantastic learning opportunity for high school students interested in the environment, will also feature a presentation by National Geographic Explorer.

Registration for the pre-college program is $650, with partial scholarships available based on need. Students can find more information and register at https://www.luther.edu/pre-college-environmental-studies/.

Hiker and author Jennifer Pharr Davis will present the National Geographic Explorer presentation at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, in Room 206 of the Valders Hall of Science on the Luther campus. The presentation is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The pre-college program is a week long experience that will cover a variety of environmental studies topics. With hands-on opportunities in both outdoor recreation and fieldwork, high school students will be able to develop leadership skills and research abilities.

From climbing to canoeing to caving, the activities offered with this program will keep students physically engaged and involved. Within these activities as well as classroom lessons and lectures, they will engage in data collection and lab work while investigating topics of personal interest.
