The group "Save Our Avian Resources" (SOAR) is reporting progress in the recovery of one of this year's Decorah bald eaglets. The juvenile eagle had been brought to SOAR on June 22nd after members of Raptor Resource Project in Decorah found it lying in the stream near the Decorah eagle's nest, with its wing broken.
On Tuesday Dr. Dirks at SOAR removed the pin in the right humerus of the bird after an x-ray revealed the bird's wing had healed enough. The eaglet's wing will continue to be immobilized for one more week and still has many more weeks of recovery ahead.
