Decorah School District receives final report of high school renovation

On Monday night the Decorah Community School Board received a final report of the recent high school renovation. The approximately $19.5M project (almost $20.7M with fees) involved 16 separate phases of construction over 27 months. StruXture Architechts reports that all work and punch lists have been completed, with some additional "building training" scheduled in July.

Statistics/Highlights from the project

41,800 S.F. of new construction including:
• New 1,500+ seat competition gym.
• New athletic locker rooms and fitness room that also doubles as a tornado safe room.
• New high school administration offices.
• New district shop and student woodshop.

120,500 S.F. of remodeled floor area including:
• New serving kitchen and cafeteria.
• Family and Consumer Science room with full commercial cooking kitchen.
• Renovated library/media center.
• New geothermal mechanical system.
• New,full building fire alarm and sprinkler system.
• Full accessibility in the school.

The expenditure of money related to the contract and bids came in about $66K below budget; and the contractors met or exceeded the timelines. The District did incur other costs related to other projects associated with the renovation, some of them being district wide.
