It's never been done before in Decorah, but it's becoming more and more commonplace across the country. decorahnews.com is announcing plans to use a drone equipped with a camera to take pictures during the Nordic Fest Parade.
The drone will give a totally new perspective on the annual parade, said decorahnews.com owner Paul Scott. "We're looking forward to seeing how the new technology can be used to give our readers a fresh look at the activity during Nordic Fest," he said.
The use of the drone has been cleared with City of Decorah officials and with the Nordic Fest Board. decorahnews.com will employ a three-person crew.
Journalists have begun using the unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as "drones," to get photos or video from vantage points that could not be used otherwise. For example, drones were used in the 2014 Winter Olympics during skiing competitions.
