An official of the company that owns the electricity transmission line near Decorah where one of the 2014 bald eaglets was electrocuted on Tuesday says the company is saddened by the incident.

ITC Midwest communications director Tom Petersen told the Cedar Rapids Gazette Wednesday, "As far as we know, this is a relatively rare occurrence."

Peterson says the company has contacted the  U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in an attempt to identify the cause of the contact and assess steps that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of another incident.

ITC Midwest operates more than 6,600 circuit miles of transmission lines in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Missouri.
