Police were busy over the 4th of July

The Fourth of July weekend was eventful in Winneshiek County.

Sheriff's deputies were called out at 6:43 Saturday morning to Big Canoe Road, just eas of its intersection with Bear Creek Road.  New Albin resident Ian Burroughs lost control of his pickup, went into a ditch and rolled over.  The pick-up was destroyed in the accident.  Burroughs was charged with failure to maintain control.

Later that morning deputies were called to Castalia, where West Union resident Samantha Christopherson had lost control of her vehicle and went into a ditch, with the car landing on its side.  The vehicle suffered $3,000 in damages.  Christopherson had minor injuries.

Finally, Sheriff's Deputies were called to Hruska's Campground at 2633 Ravine Road in rural Decorah around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.  Cresco resident Michael Huffman was discovered at the campground waving a gun around.  He was arrested on three charges: Impersonating a police officer, public intoxication and possession of a firearm while under the influence.  Huffman is in custody in the Winneshiek County Jail.
