Luther wind turbine passes the 10 million kilowatt hour mark

Posted: Tue, Jul 1, 2014 11:09 AM

The Luther College wind turbine has passed a landmark.

The turbine started generating power for the grid in October2011.  That means it will have been in operation for three years as of this coming fall.  But the turbine already has produced 10 million kilowatt hoursof electricity.

The electricity generated by the turbine is sent over Alliant Energy's lines to serve the utility's customers on the west side of Decorah, including Luther College.  The electricity generated per year is enough to power more than 500 homes in Decorah.  The electricity generated also represents approximately one third of Luther's annual electricity consumption.
