Winneshiek County to get bids on a safety study near the Wiltgen Quarry on Canoe Valley Road

Winneshiek County supervisors have asked County Engineer Lee Bjerke to draw up specifications for a safety study of the roads in the neighborhood of the Wiltgen Sand Quarry on Canoe Valley Road.

Bjerke told supervisors Monday that while a speed study would just record the average speeds of cars driving along Canoe Valley Road and Middle Hesper Road, a safety study would also consider factors like the lay of the land and the type of vehicles using the roads.

Bjerke guess that a safety study would cost between $8,000--$10,000.  Supervisors asked him to prepare an RFP, or "request for Proposals,"  Bjerke will bring back the document to supervisors next Monday.  He says if a company is hired to do the work, it would take several weeks to get results.
