A bike rack built by Decorah High School Construction Metals students will find a home along the Trout Run Trail's forthcoming Freeport extension.

The bike rack will hold six bicycles. Decorah High School teacher John Condon says his students used recycled metal for much of the bike rack.  According to Condon, the class used metal removed from the high school during its recent renovation as well as donated surplus steel.  Class member Sawyer Wise put the finishing touches on the rack by giving it a durable powder-coated finish at his family's home shop.

In early June, the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative notified Condon that the rack had earned top honors in three of the contest's categories—"best use of recycled material," "best craftsmanship," and "people's choice."
