The owners of 47 vintage four cylinder Chevrolets manufactured in 1928 and earlier are enjoying their visit to the Decorah area this week.
The owners are members of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America (www.vcca.org) Group spokesperson Jim Seiber says participants come from as far away as California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.
On Monday the drivers drove to Marquette/McGregor. They visited Lanesboro and Harmony on Tuesday. Wednesday they will travel to Calmar, Fort Atkinson and Spillville. Thursday the drivers will be in Decorah all day, visiting the Fish Hatchery and Seed Savers during the day, then holding a banquet at Luther College that evening. Friday begins the long trip home.
Seiber says the group conducts organized tours each day. There's an 8:00 a.m. drivers meeting each day, with detailed directions given to each driver. A tow truck follows in case there are any mechanical problems, which Seiber says "happens occasionally."
The week-long event is designed as a tour and not a show. Seiber says "The guys who have them (the anitque Chevys) want to drive them."
The public is welcome see the cars as they are parked at night at the Country Inn in Decorah.
