The Federal Aviation Administration requires all airports in the country to prepare an "Airport Layout Plan." The plan is basically a projection of what facilities will be added to airports over the next ten years or so. The plan is also used by the Iowa Department of Transportation to determine how to award state grants for airport projects. For more information about the airport's plans, click here.
City of Decorah officials say the Federal Aviation Administration has just approved Decorah's Airport Layout Plan--clearing the way for the city to set off on its proposed plan, which would carry a $1.7 million price tag. Federal grants, if approved, would pay for $1.3 million of that cost, with local taxpayers contributing $404,000.
Decorah City Council members on Tuesday visited the airport to get a better look at the facilities. Members of the city's Airport Commission hosted the meeting, with the airport's architectural consultants on hand to explain the plans for the facility.
