Despite rainstorms that forced the event indoors, the 2014 Winneshiek County Relay for Life was a huge success, raising over $33,000 in donations to the American Cancer Society.

Honorary cancer survivor Karen Foster spoke during the Saturday evening ceremonies, which were moved inside to the Decorah HS gym.

The event ended with a luminaria ceremony and the reading of local cancer victim names.

Among the items up for bids at a silent auction was a "What Cancer Can Not Do Quilt" donated by Marke Freerking.  She made the quilt in honor of her husband, Russ, who has been cancer free for three years now.  "I want it to comfort and bring hope to someone who may be battling cancer now, " said Marie.
