Voter turnout extremely low in Tuesday's primary in Winneshiek County

Under ten percent of Winneshiek County's registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday's primary.

1,258 votes were cast out of 13,016 registered voters--a 9.7 percent turnout.

Results in Winneshiek County mirrored those statewide.  Republican Joni Ernst (462 county votes) won the Republican primary for U.S. Senate and will face Democrat Bruce Braley (511 county votes).  The race for Braley's former Congressional seat will be between Republican Rod Blum (451 votes in Winneshiek County) and Democrat Pat Murphy (264 county votes). Republican Governor Terry Branstad and Democratic challenger Jack Hatch did not face any challenges and will square off in November.

There were no contested Winneshiek County elections.
