Supervisor raises concerns about conditional use permit fees

Winneshiek County supervisor Dennis Karlsbroten raised concerns on Tuesday about the current conditional use permit system in Winneshiek County.

Karlsbroten said he wondered whether church picnics and other such events would now need to apply for conditional use permits to hold their events.  County Zoning Administrator Tony Phillips said it is up to the zoning administrator to determine if a conditional use permit is needed.  He added that it is impossible for him to give a ruling on a hypothetical situation without having an actual application to review.

Karlsbroten, however, told Phillips, "We don't have clarity on a lot of this."  He added that he "hates to see our zoning ordinances stymieing things."
