The American Veterinary Medicine Association has awarded initial accreditation to NICC Calmar's Associate of Applied Science-Large Animal Veterinary Technician program.
AVMA is the nationally-recognized governing body that oversees veterinary technician programs. NICC Large Animal Veterinary Technician program director Christopher Harvey, D.V.M., said the AVMA was impressed that NICC's program focuses on large animals. "Ours is currently the only one of its kind that focuses on large animals in Iowa, and we're one of only three in the U.S.," Harvey explained.
The degree prepares students for technician work in all aspects of veterinary medicine for large animals. The program opened in fall 2011 and graduated its first eight grads this spring.
