Eight fourth grade students from Carrie Lee Elementary School in Decorah finished in the top ten percent of the more than 25,000 students from 556 schools nationwide who participated in the recent Noetic Learning Math Contest.
The contest is a biannual math contest for elementary students. It encourages students' interest in math, develops their problem solving skills, and inspires them to excel.
Fourth graders in Katy Hafner's math enrichment program participated in the spring contest. Eight students--Isaac Cooper, Izaak Eichinger, Adrian Huang, Nolan Jacobsen, Anya Lovstuen, Thomas Ostlie, Jack Rabe and Hogan Smit--scored at least 80 percent on the test to achieve the National Honor Roll. Ostlie and Smith earned a second medal for being highest scorers on the Decorah team, with a score of 95 percent.
Achieving honorable mention status were Drew Chamberlain, Robyn Dayton, Karter Einck, Grace Gerleman, Bennett Schutte, Larsson Shockey, Ruby Sullivan, Austin Wilkins, and Brody Young.
