The Iowa Supreme Court has issued a ruling revoking the law licenses of Decorah attorneys Steve Schrader and Heather Kingery.
The Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board had sent a letter to Schrader asking him to respond to a complaint filed with the Board. On March 24th the Board told the Iowa Supreme Court that Schrader had failed to respond to a second notice about the complaint. The next day the Iowa Supreme Court issued a notice that Schrader's license would be suspended unless Schrader replied within 20 days. The Supreme Court Clerk sent Schrader a certified mail letter to both Schrader's home and business addresses, but both copies were returned as "unclaimed." Therefore, the Iowa Supreme Court issued a ruling on Tuesday suspending Schrader's license to practice law in Iowa.
In Kingery's case, the Iowa Supreme Court and its Attorney Disciplinary Board followed the same procedures as they did with Schrader—and two letters sent certified mail to Kingery were returned by the U.S. Postal Service, marked "unclaimed." The Iowa Supreme Court then issued a ruling Tuesday suspending Kingery's license to practice law in Iowa.
