Upstart Crow Theatreworks will present William Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" Thursday through Sunday at Good ShepherdChurch. Kristen Underwood directs the play, with costuming by Lana Oyloe.
"The Winter's Tale" makes the journey from tragedyto comedy with kings and queens, dancing shepherds, an extraordinary statue,and one notoriously hungry bear, all leading to a magical conclusion.
The cast is made up of 17 young actors who are between the ages of 13 and 18. Charles Baldwin is King Leontes, Lydia Hayes is Queen Hermione, andSimon Cropp is their friend King Polixines of Bohemia. Aidan Spencerplays Paulina, friend to the Queen, with Lucas Griesheimer as her husbandAntigonus. Other courtiers are played by Clara Kittleson as Cleomenes,Skye Kelley as Dion, and Gabriela Deifelt-Streese as Lord Camillo who servesboth Leontes and Polixenes. Storme Barr plays the young Prince Mamillius,with Emma Rolfs and Sarah Mumford as his attendants Lady Margaret and LadyElizabeth. Rachel Dougan plays Emilia, Lady in Waiting to the Queen. In Bohemia, Miles Wilkie plays the rogue Autolycus, Jacob Idstrom playsthe Old Shepherd, and Gara Lonning plays his clownish son. Ian Wold playsFlorizel, the Bohemian prince, with Annika Wahlberg as Perdita, the beautifulshepherdess with a secret past.
Performances will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m., with all performances at Good Shepherd Church at 701 IowaAvenue in Decorah. Please notethere is no Friday night performance.
