Flags will be flown in Decorah on Thursday

If you notice American flags hanging from flagpoles along Decorah's major streets on Thursday, there's a reason for it.

Thursday is "VE Day," or "Victory in Europe Day," commemorating the day in 1945 that the Allies formally accepted Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces, thus bringing to an end World War II on the European continent.

VE Day is one of the patriotic holidays approved by the City of Decorah for display of the American flag.
