Posted: Wed, Apr 30, 2014 6:20 PM

The Northeast Iowa Task Force has now totaled the amount of prescription drugs collected at 19 drop off sites in Northeast Iowa over the weekend.  The purpose of the medication collection was to keep prescriptions out of the hands of people who might abuse them, especially kids.

The Task Force says just over 800 pounds of prescription medications was collected.  The event was held with the assistance of Helping Services of Northeast Iowa and Substance Abuse Services for Clayton County.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Decorah Police Department and Calmar-Ossian Police Department are members of the Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force.
