The Iowa Tourism Office and three regional tourism associations have selected Decorah as one of the stops on "The Epic Iowa Road Trip" May 2nd through May 10th.
During that time a specially wrapped bus will travel nearly 2,100 miles promoting more than 60 tourism destinations in 33 counties and 46 communities across the state. A partnership among the Central Iowa Tourism Region, Eastern Iowa Tourism Association, Western Iowa Tourism Region, and the Iowa Tourism Office, the trip is meant to showcase and recognize Iowa's travel destinations.
One of these destinations will be Decorah. The stop in Decorah will begin on Monday, May 5th, with a visit to the Decorah eagles nest and an overnight stay at the Hotel Winneshiek. On Tuesday, May 6th, at 8:30 a.m. the Winneshiek County Convention & Visitor Bureau will host a "meet and greet" at Seed Savers Exchange.
"Travel is big business in Iowa, as traveler spending here exceeds $7 billion annually," said Iowa Tourism Office Manager Shawna Lode. "This trip will highlight Iowa's thousands of tourism destinations and the people who manage them. Along the way, we want to inspire people to choose Iowa as a vacation destination."
Tourism in Iowa generates more than $7.6 billion in expenditures, employs 64,400 people statewide and generates $328 million in state taxes.
