The latest phone scam to hit Winneshiek County involves automated phone calls to cell phones.
When people answer the call, they are told that their account has been locked. The message then instructs the recipient of the call to press "1" to unlock the account. If people follow the instructions, they are then asked for a bank account number.
Fortunately, all of the Winneshiek County residents who received such calls have done the correct thing and hung up.
Police are again reminding the public not to provide any personal or bank account information over the telephone.
