In its 2014 ranking, just released on Tuesday, U.S. News and World Report has again ranked Decorah High School as # 2 in the State of Iowa. Decorah was ranked # 741 nationally, compared to # 637 last year.
The ranking of the top three schools in Iowa remained unchanged, with Decorah following Cedar Rapids Kennedy, and just ahead of Ames High School. Following are the other top ten in Iowa: Iowa City West (4), Bettendorf (5), Linn-Marr (6), West Des Moines Valley (7), Johnston (8), Williamsburg (9), and Iowa City (10).
The report focuses on Math Proficiency where Decorah is reported as 94 proficient; and Reading Proficiency, with Decorah at 91 percent. Decorah is also one of the highest in the other rating category, College Readiness. Decorah had 48 percent test via Advanced Placement exams, with 38 percent passing those tests.
According to U.S. News Iowa has one of the highest high school graduation rates in the nation. The methodology used in the 2014 Best High Schools rankings was unchanged from the 2013 edition and used data from the 2011-2012 school year. The full report, including methodology, can be found at:
