Decorah School Board, Decorah City Council to meet Monday to discuss proposed community center

The Decorah Community School Board and the Decorah City Council will hold a joint meeting next Monday night to discuss the proposed community center in Decorah.

City of Decorah officials are interested in the joint talks for several reasons.  First of all, one estimate of the cost of a community center drawn up by a consultant hired by the city had a $9.6 million price tag.  Some city officials think that's too high a price tag.  Sharing a facility with the Decorah School District might enable the City of Decorah to lower its costs.

Meanwhile, the school board has begun discussing a possible bond referendum addressed at facility issues at the kindergarten through 2nd grade level.  Some city officials feel one overall bond issue might have better chances of winning voter approval than two separate bond issues.
