As decorahnews.com reported in February, the Old Creamery Theater selected nine stories written by 12 Decorah and North Winneshiek students as among the 20 best stories in the state of Iowa. Two of those stories, "The New Duck," written by Steven Sexton, and "Lunch Ladies," written by Emily Carolan, are featured in the troupe's traveling show, which is touring across Iowa this spring.
Earlier this month the Old Creamery Theater came to Decorah High School to perform and following the show, the local students were asked to come on stage to be honored with a certificate and gift card to Barnes and Noble bookstore.
Winners from Decorah were first prize to Cady Peterson for The Pilot, and Robyn Dayton and Ruby Sullivan for Birth and Maple; second prize to Noah Lovelace for The Cookie Buddies; third prize to Rebecca Anderson for Bob, and Larsson Shockey, Emmit Stemper, and Adrian Huang for Dragon Bully.
Winners from North Winneshiek include: grand prize to Sexton for The New Duck, second prize to Maria Hendrickson for The Three Billy Goats Sampson, third prize to Tyler Bullerman for The "Pig-tastic" Adventures of Porkchop and Bacon and to Carolan for Lunch Ladies.
