(Note: Mr. Answer Person has received an anonymous letter in the mail asking why the American flags were put out in Decorah on Friday, March 28th. It's normally our policy NOT to post anonymous questions. However, this is a question we receive on a regular basis and Mr. Answer Person has a way to answer this on a permanent basis, so....)
Mr. Answer Person says: "The City of Decorah puts up American flags on more than just Flag Day! In fact, there could be as many as 13 days during the year that flags are put up in Decorah. The Decorah City Council and the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce worked in 1976 on coming up with a list of days on which the flag should be displayed--and the list has been used ever since.
Saturday, March 29th was "Vietnam Veterans Day," so the American flags were put up on Friday, March 28th. The flags will next be put up on Thursday, May 8th, which is "Victory in Europe Day."
We have attached the "City Flag Display Agreement" to this story, so please click on the list, print the list and keep it for future reference.
