Decorah 6th through 11th graders can now apply for ExCel grants

Posted: Sun, Apr 6, 2014 10:05 AM

The Decorah Community School Foundation is currently accepting applications for ExCel Endowment Fund summer educational grants. The ExCel grant program supports summer educational programs for Decorah Community School District students currently in 6th through 11th grade.  This eligibility includes students enrolled in St. Benedicts School and homeschooled students supervised by the DCSD.

The purpose of the Excel Grants is to enhance students educational opportunities during the summer months.  Depending on funding availability, priority is given to students attending programs in academic and technical fields, followed by those in fine arts. Students are encouraged to "think outside of the box" and look for academic and technical programs they think would be interesting and challenging to them.

ExCel is an arm of the Decorah Community School District Foundation, and awards grants to students who are pursuing summer opportunities. Thanks to a generous donation from the Marion E. Jerome Foundation, the ExCel committee will be able to help fund and assist a greater than usual number of applicants.

ExCel Endowment Fund grant applications can be downloaded here.  More information is available on the Decorah Community School District's website by clicking the "Foundation" link on the home page, then going to the second entry listed under "Our Programs."  Students may fill out their application on their computer, but need to print it off to obtain the required signatures before submitting it to the district's central office.  Completed applications must be returned to the Central Administrative Office on Vernon Street before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30th.  Awards will be announced by Friday, May 9th.
