Luther College campus pastor David Vasquez visited Washington, D.C. last week to meet with legislators to express the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for fair and compassionate immigration reform.
The Lutheran Immigration Leadership Summit, was hosted Tuesday and Wednesday in the nation's capitol by the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.
Vasquez visited the offices of Congressmen Bruce Braley and Tom Latham and Senator Charles Grassley. Afterwards he said, "Comprehensive immigration reform would lift a veil of fear from hundreds of workers, families, and students in our communities, creating desperately needed stability in the heartland of America where the future of so many of our rural communities is threatened by shrinking (and aging) populations."
Vasquez was one of 42 Lutheran and community leaders who took part in the two-day summit.
