Each year the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area in Northeast Iowa honors the best tourist attractions during their Golden Silo Awards Luncheon,
This year's awards were presented Wednesday at the Black's Building Sky Room in Waterloo and a Decorah tourist attraction won one of the top awards. Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum was presented with the "People's Choice Site of the Year Award." This award, unlike the others presented by the organization, is chosen by the public. Vesterheim attracted the highest number of votes from the public as the "Site of the Year." Finalists included Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa; and Living History Farms in Urbandale.
Vesterheim representative Marcia McKelvey traveled to Waterloo to receive the award on behalf of Vesterheim.
